A 5-7 minute informative or persuasive speech which
must include the following:
Four (4) documented sources (books, magazines, newspaper articles,
WWW pages, etc.) These four sources can not be all of the same kind, but
rather a variety of sources. Only ONE may be a web site. These MUST be listed under the Supporting Materials section of your outline. Be sure to list your documented sources in MLA style (follow the handout I gave you). Remember to cite your source within your speech too. ("According to Fred Fern, the author of The Big Book of Ferns, Boston ferns can grow to be as big as an elephant.")
You must also have TWO visual aids. These MUST be listed under the
Supporting Materials section of your outline.
You MUST also have an attention getting device and a preview in your introduction plus a summary and concluding device in your conclusion. These also must be indicated on your outline.
This outline must be a full sentence, full content outline. (There are example outlines available for you to look at in the Writing Center and on the class web site.) Be sure to include EVERYTHING YOU PLAN TO SAY in your speech in your outline. Your outlines should be very detailed. It must be TYPED and you must also include copies of all of your sources (the title page of books, just print out web pages, etc)..
Remember that you may also use six 4" x 6" notecards for your speaking outline. Your speaking outline should only contain your main ideas and any quotes or statistics you plan to use.
If these elements are not on your outline, you will lose points on your
speech grade.
