CET Mission, Objectives and Outcomes

The mission of the Civil Engineering Technology program at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College is to develop technically competent and professional graduates for successful careers within the profession. A successful career within the CET field also recognizes the importance of lifelong learning and therefore the CET program also aims to prepare its graduates for pursuing further educational opportunities in civil engineering technology or related fields.  To achieve success in fulfilling these objectives the program must be dedicated to continuous improvement of the equipment, software, and educational delivery systems. This mission is succinctly stated in the following Program Educational Objectives:

  1. Prepare CET graduates to successfully pursue baccalaureate degrees.

  2. Prepare CET graduates to enter and advance professionally in technical and management positions within the industry.

In order to accomplish these objectives, the CET graduate oshould have acquired the following skills, knowledge and behaviors upon their exit from the program. These outcomes embrace the skills and competencies that reflect what a CET graduate “has to offer”.

Outcome 1  The student will be able to communicate as individuals, as well as function effectively on teams, by applying oral and written skills.
Outcome 2  – The student will have an awareness of their responsibilities in the civil engineering technology field, recognizing the need for continual learning to remain well-prepared to face contemporary professional, social and global challenges in a diverse society.
Outcome 3  – The student will demonstrate an appropriate mastery of fundamental knowledge and tools, including surveying methods, CAD, engineering mechanics and other technological processes inherent to their specific field of study.
Outcome 4  – The students will demonstrate the knowledge of the importance of quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement in the civil engineering technology field.
Outcome 5  – The student will demonstrate an ability to identify, analyze and solve technical and design problems.
Outcome 6  – The student will be able to apply fundamental knowledge along with current techniques and skills to conduct experiments, analyze data, interpret and apply results to improve processes.
